A Journey Through the American Southwest Aboard the Canyon Spirit Luxury Train
The American Southwest has a way of making you slow down. Its wide-open desert, towering red-rock formations and deep canyons feel wonderfully remote almost like standing at the edge of an ocean, with nothing but space and silence ahead.
Now, travelers can experience this remarkable part of the USA from a new perspective aboard Canyon Spirit, Rocky Mountaineer’s newest luxury rail journey.
Launched in April 2026, Canyon Spirit expands the well-known Rockies to Red Rocks route, linking Salt Lake City, Utah, with Denver, Colorado. The journey lasts three days and two nights, with overnight stays in Moab and Glenwood Springs along the way.
One of the best things about this train is that it travels only during daylight hours. Guests never have to worry about missing the views: Utah’s Wasatch Mountains, Ruby Canyon’s dramatic cliffs, Colorado’s forests and winding rivers all unfold beyond the panoramic windows.
Rocky Mountaineer is known for comfortable seating, attentive hosts, regional cuisine and drinks served at your seat. But Canyon Spirit brings an extra layer to the journey through storytelling. As the train moves through the landscape, the hosts share local history, unusual legends and stories that give each place more meaning.
You may hear about Green River’s surprising past as a Cold War missile-testing area, Grand County’s UFO folklore, or the history behind Rocky Flats and its transformation into a wildlife refuge. Even the scenery has its own story Ruby Canyon’s green and pink rock layers reveal traces of an ancient seabed that existed millions of years ago.
Every Canyon Spirit itinerary includes daytime rail travel, breakfast and lunch onboard, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, hotel stays and luggage transfers. Some longer packages also include guided visits to famous national parks such as Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon and Zion.
Guests can choose between two levels of service:
- Signature Experience: Comfortable reclining seats, large panoramic windows and access to an open-air viewing platform.
- Premier Experience: A more elevated journey with gourmet dining, fine wines, lounge-car access, a cocktail bar, an additional outdoor viewing area and enhanced service.
For travelers who want to see the American West at a gentler pace, Canyon Spirit offers a memorable mix of beautiful landscapes, comfort and stories that stay with you long after the journey ends.
