Where to Go in July in the USA
July is made for big American landscapes, coastal escapes and time outdoors. It is a busy month, but with early starts, well-chosen hotels and private transport, it can be a wonderful time to travel.
Glacier National Park, Montana
Why go in July
By July, Glacier National Park is alive with alpine meadows, mountain lakes and some of the USA’s most spectacular driving routes. The Going-to-the-Sun Road is a highlight, revealing glaciers, waterfalls and enormous views at every turn.
How to plan it
Fly into Kalispell or Missoula, then travel by private vehicle to the park. Stay for four or five nights, ideally in more than one location to reduce driving times.
Where to stay
The Lodge at Whitefish Lake is a comfortable luxury base, while historic lodges inside the park offer a more traditional national-park experience.
Monterey & Carmel, California
Why go in July
The Monterey Peninsula is a refreshing coastal escape during summer, with cool ocean air, dramatic scenery and excellent food. Explore Carmel-by-the-Sea, take the 17-Mile Drive and enjoy the coastline around Big Sur, subject to road conditions.
How to plan it
Monterey is around two hours south of San Francisco by road. Stay for two or three nights as part of a longer California coastal itinerary.
Where to stay
The Lodge at Pebble Beach offers iconic coastal views, while Bernardus Lodge & Spa is a peaceful inland retreat near Carmel Valley.
Nantucket, Massachusetts
Why go in July
Nantucket is at its most charming in July, with grey-shingled cottages, sandy beaches, lighthouses and a relaxed New England summer atmosphere. It is ideal for travellers who want slow days by the ocean without a packed itinerary.
How to plan it
Reach the island by ferry or short domestic flight from Boston. A three-night stay works well, either on its own or with Cape Cod and Boston.

The Wauwinet offers a quiet waterfront stay, while White Elephant is a classic choice close to Nantucket Town.
