American Horizons: A Journey from Chicago to Los Angeles

Arrive in Chicago and meet your private driver for a transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to settle in or begin exploring the city at your own pace.

Enjoy a private introduction to Chicago, a city known for its architecture, lakefront setting and lively neighborhoods. See Lake Shore Drive, the Magnificent Mile and Navy Pier, with the option to visit Willis Tower for sweeping views across the city and Lake Michigan. The afternoon is at leisure.

Leave Chicago and travel west through the open farmland of the Midwest. Cross the Mississippi River and continue through Iowa and South Dakota, following landscapes shaped by wide prairies, small towns and working farms. Arrive in Sioux Falls for the evening.

Today brings two of South Dakota’s most distinctive landscapes. Explore Badlands National Park, where layered rock formations and grasslands stretch to the horizon. Continue into the Black Hills to see Mount Rushmore, the monumental sculpture of four American presidents. Overnight in Rapid City or Deadwood.

Travel west into Wyoming, where mountain ranges, grasslands and open plains create a classic Western landscape. Continue through the Bighorn Mountains toward Cody, a town closely tied to the story of the American West.

Spend the day exploring Yellowstone, America’s first national park. Your private guide can tailor the day around the season and your interests, with opportunities to see Old Faithful, Yellowstone Lake, Mammoth Hot Springs, Yellowstone Canyon and Hayden Valley. Keep an eye out for bison, elk and other wildlife.

Travel south through Grand Teton National Park, where dramatic mountain peaks rise above lakes and open meadows. Stop at scenic viewpoints along the Snake River before continuing to Salt Lake City. Explore Temple Square and see the Utah State Capitol during a short city orientation.

Continue south through Utah to Bryce Canyon National Park. Walk among its remarkable sandstone hoodoos and enjoy the changing colors of the canyon throughout the day. In the evening, the clear desert sky often offers excellent stargazing.

Travel through the red-rock landscapes of southern Utah and northern Arizona. Stop near Lake Powell before reaching Grand Canyon National Park. Take in views of the Colorado River and the immense canyon from the East Rim, then continue to Flagstaff for the night.

This morning, follow part of historic Route 66 through the small town of Seligman, a place that still captures the spirit of the classic American road trip. Continue across the desert to Las Vegas. This evening is free for dinner, a show or a walk along the Strip.

Cross the Mojave Desert on your way to Los Angeles, where Joshua trees and desert mountains mark the transition into Southern California. Upon arrival, enjoy a private orientation of Hollywood, the Sunset Strip and Beverly Hills before your journey comes to an end.
